dc.description.abstract Thermal shielding of the top one-third of the ingot mold intended for 58-t ingots by a cap-thermos is tested. An increase in the ingot solidification time weakens the development of defects revealed by ultrasonic inspection in the near-sinkhead zone; favors the removal of large nonmetallic inclusions in the axial part of the ingot; weakens the sulfur, carbon, and phosphorus segregation; and excludes the rejection of roll billets in these defects. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. en]
